PIAT Dormitory Ready To Use

The physical construction work of the PIAT Student Dormitory which was carried out from September 2020 to April 2021 has finally been completed. The apartment was built on the east side of the PIAT office building, consisting of 1 tower with 43 rooms. This flat, which is a grant from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, is intended to provide housing for students and researchers at PIAT UGM.

Thursday (22/7), the Ministry of Public Works and Housing represented by the Head of the Yogyakarta Housing Provision handed over the dorm keys to the Head of The Center for Agrotechnology Innovation (PIAT). read more

Cultivation of Red Tilapia (Ikan Nila Merah) at PIAT UGM

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a type of fish that has high economic value and is an important commodity in the freshwater fish business in Indonesia. The development of tilapia aquaculture techniques aims to produce fish that are cheap and accessible for the community. It is hoped that the cheap price of red tilapia will make people consume more tilapia because of its high-quality protein. However, the main obstacle in the development of tilapia in Indonesia is the lack of seed availability at the hatchery level, hence people still difficult to get the best quality of the seeds. read more

The issue of disposable mask and glove plastic waste is increasingly in the spotlight around the world, including in Indonesia. The Covid-19 pandemic has made masks and gloves a dilemma, on the one hand helping the world’s citizens avoid the virus, on the other hand, is dangerous for the environment. Previously, hospitals were the biggest contributor to medical waste, now masks and gloves seem to be part of the garbage generated by the community on a daily basis. Global data compiled by the BBC shows that the world’s population wears 129 billion mask and 65 billion disposable plastic gloves every month during this pandemic. The dairy industry in Indonesia is growing, marked by the increase in processed milk-based products on the market. This has caused many milk producers to continue to increase production and build new factories in Indonesia. One of them is PT So Good Food Indonesia, which has developed Real Good Milk since 2013 in Boyolali Regency by collaborating with the Indonesian Milk Cooperative Association (GKSI) in the Central Java region to ensure the availability of fresh milk. PIAT Utilizes Chicken Slaughterhouse Blood Waste as Raw Material for High Protein Fish Feed

Feed is one of the main components in freshwater fish farming activities. The contribution of feed costs could reach 70% of the total production cost, where currently most of the feed ingredients still have to be imported, this causes commercial feed ingredients to be more expensive. The high price of feed when compared to the selling price of cultivated fish is sometimes not profitable. An alternative solution that could be pursued is to make homemade feed through simple techniques by utilizing relatively cheaper raw material sources with adequate nutritional value. read more

The Planting of Inpari 42 Agritan GSR Paddy at UGM PIAT

Tuesday (23/3) PIAT UGM planted the Inpari 42 Agritan GSR paddy variety in block 1, Kalitirto garden, with a planting area of 9,500 meters2. This variety is irrigated lowland paddy which was launched by the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture in 2016. The choice of Inpari 42 Agritan GSR is because it can have productive tillers as many as 18 panicles/clump with a potential yield of 7.10 tons/hectare. Although susceptible to tungro virus, the Inpari 42 Agritan GSR variety is resistant to leaf blast disease and is resistant to brown planthopper pests. This Inpari 42 Agritan GSR paddy variety also has a slightly shorter planting life than the Pepe variety, which was harvested on 17 March, which is a maximum of 112 days. read more

PIAT UGM Harvesting Paddy: Pepe Variety

Wednesday (17/3) PIAT UGM harvested the Pepe variety, which is included in the commodity of irrigated paddy fields. Harvesting is carried out on an area of 9000 m2 located in block 1 of the Berbah garden, with a production of approximately 6 tons. Pepe paddy has a planting age of 120-128 days, with a maximum plant height of 110 cm, and has a potential yield of 7-8 tons / hectare. Another advantage of pepe paddy is that it is resistant to brown planthopper, biotype 2, and is resistant to bacterial leaf blight strain III. read more

PIAT UGM Discussed With Kulon Progo Regency Government Regarding Coastal Waste Management

Monday (15/03/21) The Center for Agrotechnology Innovation (PIAT UGM) held an discussion with the Kulon Progo Regency Government (Pemkab) regarding waste management at the Bogowonto and the Progo River, in the Menoreh room of the Kulon Progo Regency complex. On this occasion, PIAT UGM was represented by Chandra Wahyu Purnomo, S.T., M.Eng., D.Eng as the Secretary of PIAT.

When entering the discussion session, he said that waste is an environmental problem that has always been a concern of PIAT UGM. In Kulon Progo Regency itself, waste problems are found along the coast, one of which is around the mouth of the Progo River where the condition of the garbage piles is quite apprehensive. PIAT intends to submit a proposal for e-ASIA JRP Cooperation between Japan and the Philippines related to the theme “Prevention of Pollution in the Sea” to overcome this problem. read more

To support the research development program, in 2021 PIAT has a target to commercialize one superior variety of rice seeds which are the result of agro-technological innovation by utilizing genetic resources. read more

AgriFest 2024: Seeding Ideas, Growing Future

Dalam rangka pelaksanaan rencana aksi untuk mencapai target ketahanan pangan bangsa, Pusat Inovasi Agroteknologi Universitas Gadjah Mada (PIAT UGM) menyadari bahwa upaya mitigasi dan adaptasi terhadap perubahan iklim harus segera dilakukan melalui kolaborasi lintas disiplin ilmu dan kemitraan multistakeholders untuk mencegah terjadinya dampak yang semakin parah di masa depan. Mengusung konsep circular farming, PIAT UGM mengembangkan beberapa ekosistem bisnis pertanian yang saling terkait, yaitu bisnis produksi berbasis tanaman, bisnis produksi berbasis hewan, pengolahan hasil pertanian, dan pengolahan limbah yang semuanya saling terkait menciptakan sebuah ekosistem yang berkelanjutan. Oleh karena itu, PIAT UGM mengambil peran dengan menyelenggarakan kegiatan AgriFest 2024 yang akan dilaksanakan pada 5-7 September 2024 di Kawasan PIAT UGM yang berlokasi di Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi sebuah platform akselerasi untuk mempercepat hilirisasi teknologi dan inovasi di sektor agrokompleks.
