The Center for Agrotechnology Innovation (PIAT) is the answer to Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in facing the era of the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) in 2015. PIAT is actively laying a systematic and integrated foundation in realizing the independence of the agro sector as a pillar of the national economy, namely becoming a producer of agricultural commodities which reliable and sovereign. By emphasizing the element of innovation, PIAT utilizes UGM’s land resources from supporting agro-research to become a productive unit that capable to produce innovative agro products. Currently, PIAT manages 35 ha of productive land in Kalitirto, Berbah, Sleman and 151 ha in Mangunan-Girirejo, Dlingo-Imogiri, Bantul, Yogyakarta. PIAT has big ideals in the development of the agro sector and these ideals are contained in the following vision and mission:

To become a center for academic services and the development of agro-technology innovations that lead Indonesia’s distinctive strategic field of excellence in the world arena.
Mission:
- To become an integrated academic service center in the field of agrotechnology.
- To become a center for the development of agrotechnology innovation.
- To become an industrial hermitage that manages and develops facilities, infrastructure (seeds, fertilize, organic feed), and post-harvest agriculture that can function as a center for education and teaching, research and development, as well as community service in the field of agrotechnology.
- To become an Agro Science Technopark which prioritizes the development and application of intelligent systems that can be transmitted to stakeholders.
- Have a role in creating superior human resources in agriculture and other related fields.
